PRESS RELEASE: NEW A703 TO PROVIDE EMERGENCY RUNWAY LIGHTING
MARCH 12, 2012
The Japanese Air Self Defense Force (JASDF) has again selected Carmanah aviation lights for emergency runway lighting. This project, led by Carmanah’s Japanese partner Tesco Company Limited, is the latest in a long history of support for JASDF operations.
Often used as a backup emergency lighting system, Carmanah’s aviation kits also enable an important tactical airfield lighting capability. In addition, they are a cost-effective retrofit solution for airfields that need an upgraded operational capability or airfields where alternative energy is needed.
Carmanah aviation lights have been used in Japan since 2004 where emergency lighting systems and helipad lighting kits have been deployed to multiple Air Bases and Heliports. Carmanah aviation lights also provide obstruction lighting at Narita International Airport and Centrair International Airport.
A703 runway edge lights, the latest Carmanah lights selected for installation, offer unprecedented intensities and operational profiles that will increase safety of flight in low visibility conditions. Tesco’s President Kenji Hirashima said, “Carmanah’s Solar LED aviation lights are very high quality and have exceptional reliability rates. These lights will be used to provide military aircrew with clear visual references and guidance under any contingency scenario – an important operational capability that Tesco is proud to support.”
Carmanah Technologies CEO, Bruce Cousins stated, “The Japanese Air Self Defense Forces continue to be one of Carmanah’s most important aviation customers – their mission is ideally matched with the operational capability our lights enable. We are very pleased that through Tesco’s efforts we have yet another opportunity to support the Japanese defense forces.”
