Gatwick Airport, the United Kingdom’s second largest airport and the busiest single-runway airport in the world, has selected Carmanah’s solar powered obstruction lights for use in their mobile airfield barrier system. The sale, led by Carmanah ADB partner Friar’s Marketing, includes a package of 20 red, wirelessly-controlled ADB SAWL (A704) lights.
Gatwick selected Carmanah lights because of a combination of benefits offered by the SAWL/A704. The product combines a practical, low-maintenance design with solar powered, energy-saving technology. The standalone, self-charging light also reduces the planning and time required to maintain, charge and mobilize the obstruction marking lights, and reduces handling by eliminating the need to transfer units to and from charging pods.
At the core of our SAWL/A704 light is a microprocessor-controlled intelligence that allows Carmanah lights to function with incredible reliability in demanding environments where there are temperature extremes, where there are poor solar conditions, or where operational profiles demand much from the lights. The standalone, self-charging unit offers significant advantages over traditional airfield barrier lights – they last up to five years without battery replacement, have a system lifespan of over 15 years, and require no day-to-day maintenance.
When used in an obstruction marking environment, the SAWL/A704 complies with ICAO requirements for low-intensity obstacle light Type A and Type B, and complies to FAA L-810 standards.
